PURE WHITE 2014

“Did you...DO you notice something missing, Tammy?” Brandon asked

his childhood friend.

Tammy pursed her lips and looked around the courtyard. Shrugging,

she responded with a simple, “Nope.” Brandon grunted. His Super senses

were tingling. It bothered him. Several people had had the same nonchalant

reply that Tammy had given him, expressed uniquely from each mouth.

He distantly finished their conversation, lost in thought. No offense, but it

wasn't hard to carry on with Tammy when she did most of the heavy lifting.

He smirked, pleased with himself and mentally added. Pun intended.

“Hey.” Todd glanced from side to side before guiding Brandon and Tammy

into a shadowed corner.

“Hey.” Brandon said, brow quirked “What's up, Todd?”

“Yeah!” Giggled Tammy, amused. “What's the 411? Do tell- I want all the

juicy details!” Todd frowned.

“No. Not today. I want to know what you know.” His voice hardened.

“What I know? I know many things.” Tammy said with mock conceit. She

was well aware of her shortcomings, one being physically short and a little

slow in the head.

“We need to talk.” This was directed toward Brandon. “Not here.”

“Agreed. When and where?” Brandon could see that this mattered a great

deal to Todd, whatever it may be. He wasn't joking this time. Todd seemed

on edge. His whole body conveyed nervous energy, neck and arms tense,

showing veins.

“I don't now.”

“What about the old sanctuary?” Tammy cheerfully interjected, missing the

tone of their words. The boys stopped, considering her suggestion. Even oblivious,

Tammy spouted good ideas on occasion.

“Yeah.” Todd said shortly, nodding. “That should do.” He looked up, meeting

Brandon's eyes. “Grab something you can eat on the go at dinner and meet me

at the Old Sanctuary by Seven fifteen. Bring...only those you trust. Two people.”

Todd looked away. “I need to talk with Sheile and Jesse next. Titus should be fine.”

He grunted. It was decided. Now he let the fear set in. Todd was in over his head.

He needed every able Super to... to do what? Todd did not know, but they would.

Great minds think alike, but also from different angles. Each Super was like a small

glass shard, reflecting light from odd facets of broken beauty. Todd snorted as he

walked away. Never knew I was such a dawn sucker for analogy. Titus will never

let me hear the end of it if he finds out that I ramble poetry in my mind!
